New multimillion-dollar amphitheater unveiled for downtown Austin Another downtown Austin park is getting a facelift. Thanks to a $15
million grant from the Moody Foundation, Waterloo Park will soon be home
to an amphitheater, which will host concerts, community events, and the
performing arts.
The Moody Amphitheater, designed by Thomas Phifer & Partners, will
be a "unique steel and translucent stage-house structure" with a great
lawn large enough for 5,000 people. The revamped 11-acre park will also
feature gardens, play areas, and 1.5 miles of trails. Construction is
slated to begin this year and wrap up in 2019.
