The Texas Department of Transportation is planning to spend $7.3 billion on infrastructure projects over the next 10 years in the Austin region, which encompasses Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet and Gillespie counties, according to a draft plan released by the state agency. TxDOT’s ongoing road projects come as local and state governments are working to keep up with the region’s rapid growth and as Austin prepares to invest unprecedented money in public transportation through Project Connect to offer people alternatives to driving.
